In the midst of planning for the 2014 Light The Night Walk season, the Massachusetts Chapter’s Light The Night Staff wanted to take a moment to provide a recap of the 2013 Walk season. Without the tireless support of our many Walk participants and volunteers, none of this would have been possible! Thank you to everyone who took part in all 5 of our Walks this year!
The Massachusetts Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) had an amazing 2013 Light The Night Walk season. In total almost 6,650 participants walked to the end of cancer in York, Wakefield, Nashua, Boston, and Worcester. Our walkers raised $1.6 million, to benefit the LLS mission of providing patients with support services, advocacy for lifesaving treatments and the most promising and innovative cancer research available.

Nashua, NH

In Nashua, NH more than 600 walkers gathered at Greeley Park for the Nashua Light The Night Walk. Nashua walkers were part of 65 teams out of which 12 were corporate teams and 53 friends and family teams. Nashua walkers and teams raised $183,350 for the LLS. The top 5 friends and family teams for Nashua’s 2013 Light The Night Walk included teams: North End Family & Friends ($8,105.44), Team Carroll ($7,025.00), Chafing the Dream ($5,000.00), Team Fluffy ($4,366.10) and Annimals ($3,422.50). The top 5 corporate teams included: Elbit Systems of America ($63,255.74), Cox Clinic Angels ($1,914.00), Tastefully Simple ($1,502.00), Kohl’s #533 Rainbow Racers for LLS ($1,000.00), and Dear Jack Foundation ($860.00).

York, ME

In York, ME 450 attendees walked to the end of cancer at York Beach Ball Field. Walkers belonged to 15 corporate teams and 49 friends and family teams. Together these 64 teams were able to raise $87,154.00. The top 5 friends and family fundraising teams for York were: Kimphoma ($7,465.00), Nadeaus’s Shining Stars ($5,117.00), Team Shirley ($4,095.00), Team Lala ($3,885) and Team HOP3FUL ($3,149.00). The 5 top fundraising corporate teams included: York High School Interact ($4,768.00), Phi Gamma Delta ($1,826), TJ Maxx Store 0059 ($1,233.56), Mission Team – York ($1,075.00), and Team Marshwood ($925.00).

Wakefield, MA

Wakefield, MA was one of the larger walks of our 2013 season with an estimated 1,000 walkers on 102 total teams raising $187,073.00. Participants gathered with their corporate or friends and family teams as they walked around Lake Quannapowitt to shed light on the dark world of cancer. From the 13 corporate teams, the top 5 teams for Wakefield included: SMART Modular ($15,134.83), Ferriter Scobbo & Rodophele PC ($8,281.00), ADP ($5,229.52) and North Andover High School Band ($3,985.00). The top 5 friends and family teams were: Team Frank! ($6,650.00), Grammy Barbara’s Team ($5,495.29), Team Mary Thompson ($4,970.00), CAWS ($4,697.75), and Team Martha ($4,675.22).
These walks would not have been possible without our volunteers, sponsors and walkers. The official dates for the 2014 Light The Night Walk season are now available. We hope to see you on September 27th in either York, ME or Wakefield, MA, October 2nd in Nashua, NH, October 9th in Boston, MA or October 18th in Worcester, MA. Thank you for taking the time to make a difference not someday, but today.
